<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 14.6666669845581px;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Dane Cobain is a writer and poet from a place you’ve probably never heard of, somewhere in England. His debut novella, a supernatural thriller called ‘No Rest for the Wicked’, will be released by Forsaken in the summer of 2015. When he’s not writing books, he’s reading and reviewing them on his book blog, SocialBookshelves.com – Charles Bukowski, Graham Greene and Phillip Pullman are favourites. He’s very sad that Terry Pratchett died, and is hoping to come across Death in a Forsaken book so he can ask him what he’s playing at. <div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Welcome to another post of “In Search of Monsters”. Today we
are going to talk about a giant skeleton called Gashadokuro. If you have seen
the movie Hellboy: Sword of Storms, then you might remember the scene when a
huge skeleton rises from the ground of the cemetery, and attacks Hellboy with
his monsters. Well, that is Gashadokuro, kind of. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">He doesn’t create monsters, or use them to attack people,
but he does slice the neck off lone travelers at night. Gashadokuro means “starving
skeleton”, and he is a Japanese creature. He is created by the bones of people,
who died from starvation.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Is he not creepy yet?</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Oh, I forgot to tell you that he also can be invisible. Good
luck if you see him! Tell him I said hi, because I am not going to interview that
huge skeleton. I don’t think my alien pet stands a chance against Gashadokuro, my
best friend Dracula can’t drink his blood since he doesn’t have flesh, or
blood, my childhood friend Blade might have some cool tools to kill vampires,
but he is not a vampire. And most of all, Hellboy won’t respond my email,
because he is angry at me for not interviewing him. </span></div>

As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive. <span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Review:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
While reading the book: When
you read the story, you feel like you are Jacob Portman. The book doesn’t give
you the extra information, which Jacob doesn’t know. And it’s strange the way
the writer tell us the story. It’s like Jacob’s way of thinking is similar to
yours. Let me explain this. When I read a mystery book, I start thinking, you
know, resolving the mystery. Sometimes I resolve this mystery before the main
character, and this is so frustrating. Sometimes I resolve the mystery after
the main character, and that is equally frustrating. It’s not my fault; it’s
the author’s fault. Maybe there was too much information in the book, or maybe
there wasn’t enough information. But if you have the same problem like me, then
you are in deep trouble. The author gives you enough information for solving
the mystery at the same time with Jacob. That’s why I liked the book. The
author doesn’t let you solve the mystery until the end, and you just can’t put
it down.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The extra element: </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
What made me immediately like this book were the vintage
photos. Other readers have described them as somehow creepy, but I didn’t find
them that much. Some of them were quite odd, for example the little girl with
the fire, but everything fitted the story perfectly. Every detail is weir, and
odd. This book was made for me.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
What I didn’t like: </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Overall I enjoyed the book, but it wasn’t what I expected. I
expected it to be horror, but all I got was a tingling sense of creepiness
washing over me in some scenarios. It was scary in a safe measure. If I would
have read this book years ago, I would have loved it for its creepiness. Now, I
am used to horror, nothing fazes me, haha!</div>

<span style="font-size: 18px;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: 18px;">I hope you are doing well on this fine Wednesday. I had this idea long time ago about </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">incorporating my travels and books in one post. I love
travelling. It is a recent passion of mine. I didn't know I had it, until I realized
that I truly do love travelling. I love different cultures, and since I spend
most of my free times learning about them, travelling is like a haven to me.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Therefore I decided to start this new
series called "Anila's Travels", where I will be talking about book
culture in these cities, or countries. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">For this episode we have Rome. I have
lived in Rome for two years and a half, and now I go every three months there
for my medical check-ups.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">I've noticed that in Rome, there are a lot
of libraries and bookstores. When I say a lot, I mean too much! Wherever you
go, you will find a bookstore near. I have a library in the hospital I go, and
there is a shelf full of books in my hospital room. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">When I take the subway, I love to look at people, and make up
stories about them. Most of the people in the subway are reading, no matter if
they are reading hardcovers, or ebooks. Don't get me started on those
newspapers. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">There are a lot of talented Italian writers, and I have noticed
that people tend to read their writers, rather than translated books. Though
that is just my observation! There are a lot of religious bookstores in Rome,
and you find them everywhere. You can even buy nonfiction there.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Unfortunately, I have noticed that young
people don't read much, not as much as the others.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">But God, having a conversation with a
middle aged Roman woman is like heaven. You discuss about a lot of things,
jumping from one conversation to the other quite naturally, and most of their
speeches start with "I've read a book...”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Of course, I am not implying that only Italians
read books, or that all Italians are book lovers, but this is an occurrence you
find in Rome.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Description:</span> Thirteen
words in a want-ad turn Tess Cooper’s world upside down after she signs on as a
paranormal research assistant to the mysterious Davin Egypt. He reveals a world
of grave robbing, clockworks artifacts in blue amber, antique revolvers that
fire strange ammo, and powerful forces beyond human comprehension.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%;">As ancient occult
energies threaten to destroy her city, Tess must use her journalistic instincts
to stay one step ahead of the public works director, Drew Dawson, whose agenda
seems bent on destruction rather than maintenance. And possibly murder, but
will anyone believe her?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%;">Yeah, right. When
garbage trucks fly.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%;">If Tess teams up with
the hunky police lieutenant, Kirk Gunther, and the pale, oddball Mr. Egypt,
they might be able to save the city in time. That is, if Egypt even wants to.
And if Tess overcomes her phobias long enough to do battle in Granddad’s 1983
Subaru Brat.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="color: #444444;">Why did you write
that?</span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .4in; text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%; text-indent: 0in;">How does a book about
the inability of the Western mind to successfully cope with paranormal phenomena
due to the cultural blinkers of Science and Christianity sound? Really, really
boring, right? Well, you’re in luck. I didn’t write that book.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY7uGhdJPE06IRYgeMkMHDN0UaQdGrKjURT02QksX0gyD28sB_6QAWDJlPYnQcnazPGdxKGALGoxRf9TZ787nBZHRM4WmSyOrary7Lyuc99BKL8T6QDqwTk4Z_fJoJLIPQ57KVIjAFzyM/s1600/Eric+author+Photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY7uGhdJPE06IRYgeMkMHDN0UaQdGrKjURT02QksX0gyD28sB_6QAWDJlPYnQcnazPGdxKGALGoxRf9TZ787nBZHRM4WmSyOrary7Lyuc99BKL8T6QDqwTk4Z_fJoJLIPQ57KVIjAFzyM/s1600/Eric+author+Photo.jpg" height="320" width="212" /></a></div>
<span style="line-height: 150%;">While I like the idea
that the unknown remains so due to the culture we live in, some dry, vaguely
philosophical oeuvre didn’t seem like a book that would attract many readers.
Probably rightly so. I could’ve gone on and on about how our belief in the
strange hinges on what we can measure, collect and quantify; or what we can (or
cannot) shoehorn into a belief system.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%;">Instead, I wrote
Inhuman Interest: Story by Tess Cooper. Tess is a reporter, a skeptic, and
frequently clumsy. Her new boss, Davin Egypt, is an occult researcher,
didactic, and consistently spooky. Together, they investigate bizarre events
that threaten to destroy their city. Tess wants to stop it. Egypt just wants to
observe it.<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="_GoBack"></a><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%;">I chose a zany, scary,
fun quick-read thriller for a bunch of reasons. The first reason is kinda dumb.
My friend Julia Park Tracey sent me an e-mail: “Write a short, snappy novel in
February and we’ll promote it in May. It’s a thing,” she said. Prior to this,
Julia had offered other insane-o ideas. “Write an entire novel in November.
It’s a thing.”That thing turned out to be NaNoWriMo, and I wrote Willing
Servants, my first novel, which got snapped up by a publisher. So despite my
usual misgivings, I went ahead and did it. Dumb? Yeah, dumb like a fox!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%;">The second reason is
that my first professional sale was “Thingies in the Hills,” a short science
fiction horror story told from the point of view of a teenage girl. It was easy
to write, it was fun to write, it got sold for pro rates, it only took a couple
days. It was funny, and scary, and snappy. I wanted to try it again, in a longer
work.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%;">The most important
reason was that I wanted to write something accessible to a broad spectrum of
readers. I learned the hard way that straight horror is not for everyone. As I
proudly hawked my first novel, a young guitar student of mine wanted to read
it. She was thirteen at the time, and while I thought she could handle it just
fine, I didn’t want an angry call from her parents. I told her to read it when
she turned eighteen. I didn’t want to write books I couldn’t recommend to
everyone. So I picked two of the most popular writers, and mashed their stuff
together. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%;">In this case, I chose
the unlikely pairing of Janet Evanovich and Stephen King. They’re not as
different as would appear from the high concept. One writes about crime in a
Trenton, NJ suburb, the other about horror in small town Maine, both write
character-driven novels, both are hugely successful, and, c’mon, is it really
that hard to imaging Stephanie Plum picking up a skip in ’Salem’s Lot?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="line-height: 150%;">Hopefully, the big
takeaway, other than plain old fun, is that readers consider the occult in a
new way, argue with my undefined version of the paranormal, and consider their
own stand on things beyond comprehension. That, and that you’re dying to read
the next one.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

unpleasant, it’s also haunted by the world’s most evil boy.<br />

While reading the book: </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
This was an interesting light horror read. It wasn’t that
bone-chilling, or extremely scary, but it was quite interesting. The stories
started getting creepier, and honestly I don’t know if that was what the author
intended. The book starts with a not-so-scary story, but as the stories go on,
I see some rising of the creepy factor. If this book was read by a normal
reader, he would have found it incredibly scary, but for a horror lover not so
much. I actually enjoyed the last story.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The extra element: </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
All these stories included ghosts, and even though some
parts were the usual cliché scenarios (only some parts), overall I enjoyed
reading about the legends. The legends included different cultures and time
periods, making the stories differ from each-other. In the first story the
ghost children can't handle sunlight, because their skin will be burnt. (Do I
sense some vampires here?)</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
What I didn’t like: </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I feel like the stories had potential. If only some cliché
parts were removed, and some interesting plot twists were described better, I
think that the stories could have been much creepier. It is a shame, because I
really liked the stories, the legends, and the uniqueness of the ghosts, but
sometimes the writing style made it less scary.</div>

I think that this would be a perfect book for readers,
who want to enter the dark side (those who want to start reading horror). If
you are transitioning into the horror genre, I would recommend this book.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Hello bookworms</span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
How have you been doing? For this “In Search of Monsters” I
decided to talk a bit about ghouls. Now, I am not a ghoul expert, just like for
example I am a vampire expert, but I did see all the episodes of “Tokyo Ghoul”,
I did read the manga, and also I did my research on ghouls. So, here we go.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Firstly, people tend to confuse vampires with ghouls, and
vice versa. Both of these creatures look somewhat human, they feed on human
flesh, and they do have extraordinary hearing, smelling, fast reflexes, and
stuff.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Well, not really! Vampires do not eat human flesh, they just
drink human blood. The victim of a vampire usually turns into a vampire, unless
he is burned, or his head is cut off and filled with garlic (What Van Helsing
did to Lucy, not to let her Dracula control her anymore, and save her soul.)
Ghouls just eat human flesh, they are carnivores. Their victims die, they don’t transform into
ghouls.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Vampires are dead people, whether they are bitten by other
vampires, risen from their grave because of their sins, or maybe their soul is
transformed in lugat, when the death rituals aren’t respected (Albanian
Legends). Ghouls aren’t particly dead people, they are just monsters. Vampires
used to be human at some extent, while ghouls no. They are born this way. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Basically let’s say that vampires are sophisticated
creatures, while ghouls are all about violence. Vampires are immortal, and they
don’t age, while ghouls do age.</div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
If you try to kill a vampire, you might need special
weapons, you know, you can’t just run them in your knife. When you stab a
ghoul, your knife will pierce through his flesh, but still it will heal itself. If you want to kill a ghoul, you have to stab him several times, until he can't heal anymore<br />
<br />

Ameonna<div class="MsoNormal">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace;">Hello bookworms</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have solved the mystery of my life. As a curly haired
girl, I know the pain of looking like the lion king, when it rains, especially
when I have done my hair so perfectly. </div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">After my last dangerous visit in Ireland, while running away from the
headless knight, Dullahan, I returned to Japan again. (in my imaginary world,
LOL). </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">A certain female spirit called Ameonna hates me, therefore she makes it
rains everytime my hair is perfect.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<span style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">She is a female spirit illustrated in Toriyama Sekien's Konjaku Hyakki Shūi. Ameonna is a woman , who stands
in the rain, licking her hand. But she is known as a goddess from China's Mount Wushan, who is a cloud in
the morning and rains in the evening. Well, she seems harmless, beside the ruining
my hair thing. I forgive her anyways. I’ve had worse. Dullahan almost threw a
bucket of blood on me, just because I wanted to interview him. So rude!</span></div>

But it is only when her best friend dies that she discovers the meaning of
those beautiful golden auras — Death. Alone, lost in the foster system, she
struggles to understand who she is and why she was cursed with the ability to
see the soon-to-be-dead. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
The new foster kid, Aidan, isn’t helping any. Mr. Perfect seems to fit in no
matter what, making her feel even more pathetic. But when his affections turn
to her, Bryn finds him hard to resist. Impossible actually. A mystery himself,
Aidan disappears, leaving behind a broken heart and a mysterious book that
suggests Bryn might not be entirely human.<br />
<br />
Bryn stands at the threshold of a journey of discovery. Will destiny help her
find herself, find her purpose and her place in a world in which she’d never
belonged?</span></div>

<b><span style="color: #990000;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>While reading the book: </b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">This was a fast read. Nothing too scary, but not monotonous
either. The mystery was evident in every chapter. Bryn, a girl who sees
people glow before they die, finds out that she is a Valkyrie, a reincarnation
of the Warrior Brunhilde to be more exact. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Main Character: Bryn was someone you could easily
follow her point of view. She didn’t have any friends, and people called her a
“freak”. They mostly judged her for being an orphan, and that made me extremely
mad.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><b>The extra element: </b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">The YA genre has had its fair share of
vampires, werewolves, ghosts, demons, etc. It's difficult to find something
new. Norse mythology! I love books with strange, unique mythology. Even though
the Norse mythology has been known for quite a while on TV, I still enjoyed the
book. Just for your information Valkyres, put simply, are females with wings,
who choose those who may die in battles, and those who may live.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>What I didn’t like: </b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Personally, I think that Bryn’s
relationship with Aidan escalated quickly. They just met, and the next day they
were making out, then he tried to save her life. Calm down, people! I wish
their relationship would have developed in a slower pace. Their lives
drastically changed, and their romance was kind of unnecessary. They were faced
with mythological creatures, for God’s sake. They didn’t have time for romance.
If there would have been just a tiny bit of chemistry hinting the romance for
the next book, I would’ve enjoyed the reading much more.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="color: #990000;">Description:</span></b> “I’m a Different Type of Apple” is a
biography written by Kevin D Elliott, who is the main character of this book.
This is a true story about a boy who stops following his father’s tragic
footprints and starts walking in his own direction. He faces with everybody’s
judgments about his father’s bad menace. They would see him and call him
“Little Ted”. Despite all the maltreatment from the others, he found the
strength to move forward. Furthermore, with his “Superheroes’ help”, he turned
himself into a better person, into a worthy citizen, completely different from
the education his father gave to him.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>While reading the book:</b> This is a one of these books
that you find easy to understand and really quick to read. I personally
finished this book for exactly one hour and a half. This book will give you the
opportunity to face with the main characters problem in a unique and original
way. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Main Character: </b></span><span style="font-size: large;">In one hand Kevin Elliott has that kind of personality that
you find easy to understand, but in the other hand you find it difficult to
accept such major thoughts from a ten year old kid. I personally don’t like the
way how the author describes the ability of a little boy , to make the
comparison between GOOD and BAD. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>The extra element:</b> </span><span style="font-size: large;">I really like the way how the author describes the scenes of
the book. It makes the reader be familiar with his story and his problems. By
studying the way of his writing we can get close enough to his point of view
about pretty much every situation. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>What I didn’t like:</b> </span><span style="font-size: large;">I think that the repetition of the same story over and
over again, is kind of boring for the reader. Maybe the author wants to put a
high note to that story, by rewriting it again and again, but I still would
prefer it to be showed in a special and unforgettable way, so that the reader
would be impressed by it. </span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="color: #990000;">Hello
bookworms,</span></b><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">It’s
been a while since my last In Search Of Monsters. Truth be told, this feature
takes a lot of time. </span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-size: large;">I have to find a bizarre creature, spend hours doing
research on it, look at various designs, and then build the dialogue, draw the
scene, photograph it, edit it with Photoshop, and write the post.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Since my
doctors told me not to use my left arm, and I am left-handed, it’s been quite
tough. Drawing with my right hand is difficult for me, but, I am getting better
at it. So, today we are going to talk about an Irish creature:<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Dullahan,
or the headless horseman is a horseman, who is headless. (Captain Obvious!)
Basically, he keeps his head under one arm. His mouth is twitched in a
horrendous grin from one side of the face to another, and his eyes dart like
fire looking for his next victim. He uses the cord of a human body as a whip, the
vertebrae constantly making a crackling noise. His wagon is decorated with candles in skulls,
the spokes of the wheels are made from <span style="color: windowtext; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">femur</span>s, and the covering
made from dried human skin. (Okay, the horror side of me obviously overreacted
here. I have to keep my inner horror writer under control.) <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Dullahan
is pretty unstoppable, since he can enter any door, or gate. He stops riding<span style="background: white; color: #252525;"> when a person is due to die. The
dullahan calls out their name, at which point they immediately die. He doesn’t
like being watched, so he throws a basin of blood on those who dare to watch him,
or lash out the intruder’s eyes with his whip. Dullahan frightened of gold, and
even a single gold pin can drive him away. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="color: #990000;">Hello Bookworms,</span></b><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b><span style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Welcome to another
episode of Creature Feature, where you will know about the most unique, unheard
creatures ever (plus some creepy legends).<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Today we are going to
talk about the dead. Don’t be confused: I don’t mean the gruesome zombies
eating your brains, and neither the fast ones in World War Z. As you already
know, the first episodes are focusing on Albanian Mythology (later we will
continue to other countries) Also, these legends aren’t taken from books, or
internet, I got them from asking people. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now let’s talk about
our topic. The Rising Dead, in <st1:country-region w:st="on">Albania</st1:country-region>,
is supposed to be someone,</span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-size: large;"> who did a sin in his life, and now the grave can’t
hold him. According to the mythology, God punished him by not letting him repose
in his grave. That’s why, when humans walk near the graveyard, sometimes they
hear dead people talking (Now, that is creepy!). They talk about the sins they
have done.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">They might even come
to their houses, crying and screaming at night. Let me explain something. Death
Rituals in <st1:country-region w:st="on">Albania</st1:country-region>
may vary, but all in all they are pretty much the same. The family passes one
night in the dead human’s house. They put his body in another room. They lock
the door of that room. My grandma says that is because in that night, the dead
is supposed to wake up, meet God, and confess his sins. Now, in <st1:country-region w:st="on">Albania</st1:country-region>, there
are a lot of religions, and even though the rituals may vary a bit, they are
pretty much the same.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Even after the dead is
buried, people keep coming at the house of his family for 5 weeks. I repeat for
five weeks! <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyways there exists a
legend in <st1:place w:st="on">North Albania</st1:place>. A man was dead, and
his body was put in a room, locked in. His family was staying at the living
room, when downstairs screams and screeches were heard. It was supposed to be the
dead, whom had committed a grave sin. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">“How can they be freed
from their sins?” You may ask. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Well, the answer is
going to surprise you. Basically they can jump on human’s necks, and instantly
the sins pass to them. The dead is free, and the human is not, because he
carries another sin on his back. To be protected, the human should be covered
in oil, this way when the dead tries to jump, his hands slip, and he can’t pass
the sins to the human. And also the human should clean the place, where the
dead had appeared.</span><o:p></o:p></div>

read a lot of paranormal/YA/horror/NA books, but I rephrase:<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

a 5000 years old vampire, who just attracts danger everywhere she goes, and
puts herself in sticky situation. And being a human means having emotions, something
she lacked off before. Being a human meant being defenseless, but Sita had to somehow
protect herself. How can such a strong vampire bear to be so vulnerable? Was it

<span lang="EN-US" style="background: white; color: #181818; font-family: Georgia;"><span style="font-size: large;">Now, let’s analyze
another point. The mythology. I have been studying too much mythology lately,
therefore I always love when books are based on unique legends. Here, we have a
mix of mythology, religion, spiritualism, and some dark “alien” forces. Basically, it is a
weird mess. The book is confusing, and a lot of reviewers have pointed out that
it is too weird. Personally, I am comfortable with the weird stuff, and the
book didn’t seem that confusing to me. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Magic is an abomination. It spread from the Rift, a great chasm hundreds of miles long that nearly split the southern continent in two. The Rift was a portal, a gateway between their world of science and the mythological world of magic
.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">On the northern continent of Ocker, King Godwin declared that no magical monstrosity would be allowed within their borders. The Royal Inquisitors were formed to investigate reports of mystical occurrences and, should they be found, to destroy them.<o:p></o:p>
</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;">Inquisitor Simon Whitlock knows his responsibilities all too well. Along with the apothecary, Luthor Strong, they've spent two years inquiring into such reports of magical abominations, though they've discovered far more charlatans than true magical creatures. When assigned to investigate Haversham and its reports of werewolves, Simon remains unconvinced that the rumors are true. What he discovers in the frozen little hamlet is that the werewolves are far more real than he believed; yet they’re hardly the most dangerous monster in the city.<o:p></o:p>

<span style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><b>The Review:</b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes, chances are you are
going to love this book. The mystery is quite intense in this story. One thing
I liked most is the uniqueness of the magic world. And trust me, I have read
lots of books with magic. Since the story was set in the Victorian era,
everything fitted perfectly, starting from their communication, to the way they
dressed.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Forget anything you’ve read about werewolves until now,
because here we have a different kind. I am all about new creatures, therefore
these kinds of werewolves are my favorites. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Luthor has to be my favorite character. While reading the
book, I totally enjoyed Simon and Luthor’s brotherly relationship. In some
parts, it is quite funny. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">There is no horror feel in this story, but there is quite a
lot of thriller influence.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The character development, the writing style, the setting,
the uniqueness, everything was where it was supposed to be. I give this book
five cats. Well Done!</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> “Do you smell that? It’s atrocious. It’s a mixture of spoiled milk and gangrene. Please tell me that isn’t coming from your room.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> Luthor blushed slightly and looked over his shoulder. “I accidentally broke one of my vials when I was unpacking. It’s an unpleasant scent, to be sure.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> Simon frowned. “Please don’t tell me that was one of the liquids in that foul brew you gave me on the zeppelin.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> Luthor pushed his glasses back up his nose but remained silent.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> “Luthor?” Simon asked, arching his brow inquisitively. “It wasn’t, was it?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> When the apothecary didn’t reply, Simon threw up his hands in disgust and stormed down the hall.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> “In my defense,” Luthor said as he hurried to catch up, “you told me not to tell you.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> “I swear that you’re trying to poison me. You slip these terrible concoctions into my drinks just to kill me slowly.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> “There are actually indigenous tribes along the far eastern shores that intentionally ingest poisons in an attempt to build a resistance to the natural venoms that exist in their flora and fauna. Despite a wide spread acceptance of the practice, only a very small percentage of them actually die.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> “You find the most remarkable ways to try to defend your inane actions,” Simon said. “I’m not an indigenous tribesman from the eastern shore. Please stop trying to poison me.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> “I’d never poison you without your knowledge,” Luthor said before reconsidering his word choice.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0.25in;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> “I guess I should be pleased that my friends will stab me in the face, rather than stabbing me in the back.”<o:p></o:p></span><br />

wake up at 5 AM, and I read for two hours or something. This way I start my
morning feeling happy, and energized. Usually I nap for one hour when I come
back from school, and replace the hour I had lost (If I don’t read in the
morning, I wake up at 6). This makes me start my day in a much more energizing,

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">All Blythe Sol ever wanted was to be a normal girl. Yet, her dreams of following in her father’s footsteps by joining the military after graduation are crushed when nuclear war comes to the United States in the year 4006. Tens of thousands are killed in a series of attacks on many major cities, while thousands more are left injured from the devastation of the blasts, or terminally ill from the effects of radiation.<o:p></o:p></span>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When the government offers the sick and injured a second chance as part of the Restoration Project, how could they refuse? Hoping to put her life back together after the blasts take both her arm and her eye, Blythe enrolls in the program filled with hope. She never expects that the bionic additions will change her life so drastically. When it is discovered that those outfitted with the robotic parts have become enhanced beyond the limits of ordinary human ability, normal can never exist for her again.<o:p></o:p></span>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Bionics become targets of the government, as fear of them spreads across the nation, further enflamed by media propaganda and political conspiracy. Forced to go into hiding or face execution, society’s outcasts band together to form the Restoration Resistance—an underground rebellion which Blythe becomes a part of in order to survive. She could never imagine that joining them would thrust her at the forefront of an imminent revolution, or that it would put her in a confusing tug-of-war between two of her fellow soldiers—Gage Bronson, the mysterious new addition to the Resistance, and Dax Janner, her best friend. Even though Gage is rapidly capturing her heart, she is forced to face the possibility that her feelings for Dax might just go beyond friendship. However, with impending war and the threat of death hanging over her head, Blythe hardly has time to worry about anything as trivial as a love life…<o:p></o:p></span>

<i><span style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">“Welcome to your first day of training. My name is Jenica Swan, and while the media has taught you over the years that I am the enemy… I can assure you that I am one of your best chances at surviving from this moment on.”<o:p></o:p></span></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-add-space: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: .3in;">
<i><span style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">I stand in the formation of about fifty people ranging in age from sixteen to forty, watching the imposing ex-CIA agent pace back and forth in front of us. Her polished black boots click on the tiles lining the hovercraft hangar, and her sleek, black ponytail hangs down between her shoulder blades in a straight line. The titanium of the faceplate covering the upper, top right half of her face reflects the lights overhead. <o:p></o:p></span></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-add-space: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: .3in;">
<i><span style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">I am flanked by strangers, people I have never laid eyes on before today. Despite the fact that I’ve been living at Resistance Headquarters for two months now, I’ve never left my assigned room. Turning and scanning the row of recruits, my eyes lock on the one person here I do know.<o:p></o:p></span></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-add-space: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: .3in;">
<i><span style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Dax Janner gives me an encouraging smile and a nod. He doesn’t have to speak for me to know what he’s thinking. I can almost hear him in my head saying, ‘You can do this’! Squaring my shoulders and holding my head high, I fix my gaze on Jenica and force myself to focus.<o:p></o:p></span></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-add-space: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: .3in;">
<i><span style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">“In the next three months, you will undergo a rigorous training schedule and adhere to a strict personal one. You will wake every morning at 4 am for chow. After chow, there will be a run around the entire dome encasing this hideout. Not through, around… a total of ten miles. After the run, we will engage in hand-to-hand combat training. You will work with partners and other trained members of our team to hone your skills. After that, you will get a one-hour lunch break. From there, you will report back to the main building for time at the range. Our weapons supply is limited, but what we do have, you will all learn to be proficient on. Those of you who signed up for flight lessons will see me each day after your time at the gun range. Every Friday, we will skip our run and meet here for lessons in everything from using your radio COMM devices, to deciphering Military Police code words.”<o:p></o:p></span></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-add-space: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: .3in;">
<i><span style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Swallowing past the lump in my throat, I take this all in numbly. In the past, the idea of training to be part of a unit would have lived up to my every dream. Being a recruit, a cadet… it all felt so meaningless now when there was no one here to be proud of me. No father beaming with pride and saying ‘That’s my girl’. No mother with tears in her eyes. No little sister staring up at me with awe and aspiration.<o:p></o:p></span></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-add-space: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: .3in;">
<i><span style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">No one, I reminded myself, except Dax, who saved my life. I can feel him watching me. He does that, as if he thinks I’ll break at any moment and he needs to be there to catch me when I do. It’s happened often enough since he rescued me and brought me here, so I don’t blame him. As much as my insides bristle at his invasion of my defenses, something in me yearns for more of it. Something inside of me misses the bonds I shared with the people who made up my family, and I want those bonds back… more than anything. I want—need—something to live for. Something to fight for.<o:p></o:p></span></span></i></div>

<div class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle" style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; mso-add-space: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: .3in;">
<i><span style="line-height: 150%;"><span style="font-family: Courier New, Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">“Get to know your fellow recruits,” Jenica continues, stopping before our formation and turning to face us with her hands clenched behind her back. “You all are going to be spending a lot of time together. Learn to like each other. Live with each other’s differences. Get over your petty disagreements, or whatever you walked in here with, because this is it. Look around you, people… the guy to your left and the girl to your right are all you’ve got. We all remember what life used to be. We all had lives before we came here. Many of you are young and probably thought you had it all figured it out. Your life hasn’t turned out the way it planned, but this is it. Some of you will suffer even more than you already have fighting this battle. Some of you will die. So, you may as well make it count. If you don’t like each other, tough luck. Forget the past. The people in this room, right now… these people are your new family.”</span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></i><br />
