In Search of Monsters #1: Fairies Vs Lemons

Hello World!
Welcome to my own feature "In Search of Monsters"
If you have been around here for a while, you probably know that I love legends. In fact, when I was little, I used to stay with old people, rather than play with kids, just to listen the creepy legends they would tell. And the most terrible thing is that I believed them, I believed them all! -_-  They once told me there was a witch staying at my balcony... I still don't go there.
As time passes by, I  become even more intrigued by legends and even more obsessed with them. But the more legends I hear or read, the weirder they seemed. Even though I am completely in love with the way those stories can scare us, let's admit it that sometimes they are just bizarre.
So, let's analyze them. As for the first legend, I have taken "Fairies VS Lemons", just because I wanted something simple to start with, reserving for later my country's vampire with high heels.

As you may know every creature, bad or good, has a weak point, just like for example vampires cannot stand garlic (that is weird as well). Because these creatures are immortal, there should be some sort of hope for us mortals to combat them. But my question is "Why do we need to fight fairies?"
I know there are evil fairies (I am talking about literature, not real world), but usually fairies are tiny, cute, human like beings with butterfly wings. Why do you want to KILL them?
And worse, why should we kill them with lemons?
Legends say that lemons are poisonous to fairies. Of course it depends what kind of fairies we are talking about. I don't know why, but I feel like since the lemon is a small evergreen tree, and fairies like trees and nature... shouldn't they be best friends or something? Shouldn't the lemon tree be their home?
Personally, I prefer the version where fairies are killed with iron, it makes more sense to me.

But enough talking about me, you should be the one telling your opinion at the comments section below! Whether you are a writer, or a reader, what do you think?
Do you agree with the lemon version, or do you think that is just weird?
Make sure you comment.
Now, it's time to go! See you next time :)
Have a wonderful day!

  1. Haha, I didn't know about this one. Years of "Charmed" episodes haven't prepared me for it! Maybe because their fairies were always on the good side. Well, to be honest, I didn't even know about the iron thing. And you're right, lemons should be fairies' best friends...but I suppose they can be seen as "poisonous" to such fragile creatures because they're acrid...
BTW, I, err, love garlic. So I'm sure I'm not a vampire. But I love lemon too...so I'm not a fairy either. Still have to find my own creature! ;)

Well done on your feature - I'm looking forward to reading more!

    1. Haha, you are hilarious. Well, I got this information from some Russian tales. After that I did a bit of research. A lot of people say they got it from "Buffy, the vampire slayer".
I love garlic too. Usually Albanian cuisine uses too much garlic, so at least I know I'm not a vampire. But then again, fairy or vampire, how can you say no to "Ghiaccioli al limone" ???

      I sure can't! ;)

And welcome, oh sister in garlic! ;P

Buffy, umm. I've never watched the show, but I did read all the scripts a couple of years ago in my sneaking time at work (because I'm weird that way), and I don't remember anything about fairies and lemons...Must be old age creeping up on me O_O.

And I was thinking. Are there any creatures who can't stand peppermint or anis? Because if they are, I've finally found my kind...

    3. I can't stand peppermint either. Whatever creatures we are, I’m sure we are the coolest out there, haha!
